Perennial gardens abound on this waterfront home overlooking Narragansett Bay. A mighty ancient beech tree beckons at the top of the driveway, as stone walls and elegant pergolas welcome you to "Cross Winds". Stone Carpenter, architects of the Barrington Town Hall, designed the estate's high style modern gothic residence with this carriage house on the property, (circa 1876). With sensitivity to the historic detail, several renovations transformed the dwelling, beginning in 1978. Beams in the hallway, original to the carriage house, mark your entrance into spacious rooms, with artistic details and elaborate craftsmanship. The double living room has glass sliders on the entire side facing west leading out to the mahogany tiered decks, overlooking a cool pool, shaded by classic awnings and accented with colorful planters of apricot hibiscus. Large picture windows focus on secluded gardens, allowing the room to be bathed in light. Soaring ceilings give importance to this magnificent space. Horse stables were originally located in the formal dining room. The menu may have changed but the old world charm still remains. Today's culinary aromas emanate from a very spacious kitchen, also blessed with a view. Entertaining is gracious from this cook's haven, which has ample cupboards, and adequate counter space for sous chefs to participate in the preparations.
